Faith Book

"FAITH BOOK" offers Mini-reflections on the Sunday scripture readings designed for persons on the run.  "Faith Book" is also brief enough to be posted in the Sunday parish bulletins people take home.

Job 7: 1-4;6-7; Psalm 147; I Cor. 9: 16-19; 22-23; Mark 1: 29-39

From today’s Gospel reading:

Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever.

They immediately told Jesus about her.

He approached, grasped her hand and helped her up.

Then the fever left her and she waited on them.

Reflection:

The story of Peter’ mother-in-law’s sickness is a family concern. Jesus’ touch, the healing and the woman’s return to full life take place at home. The well being of the family is of concern to Jesus. The gospel is encouraging because it reflects Jesus’ involvement in what immediately concerns us. Sooner or later, like Peter and Andrew, we invite Jesus to our own home and, like Pater, invite him to address what concerns us there.

So we ask ourselves:

  • What issues in our family concern us?
  • Shall we invite Jesus into our home and ask him to stretch out his hand?
