FAITH BOOK

FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT -C- April 7, 2019

Isaiah 43: 16-21; Philippians 3: 8-14; John 8: 1-11

By Jude Siciliano, OP

Mini-reflections on the Sunday scripture readings designed for persons on the run. "Faith Book" is also brief enough to be posted in the Sunday parish bulletins people take home.

From today’s Philippians reading:

Just one thing: forgetting what lies behind but straining forward to what lies ahead, I continue my pursuit toward the goal, the prize of God’s upward calling, in Christ Jesus.

Reflection:

Paul knew the work of rebirth was not yet complete in himself. Which we too have become aware of again this Lent – more needs to be done in us. We know this – Christ knows it too. He is not ready to condemn, but because of our union in him, Christ promises to finish the work of salvation begun in us.

So, we ask ourselves:

  • What do you think Paul means by "the prize of God’s upward calling?"

  • What "higher calling" have we hear this Lent for our lives?
